b. 2000, lives and works in Seoul Memory and emotion erode over time, leaving traces that give rise to new worlds. My canvas serves as a field of inquiry and an arena for this transformation.
For me, emotion is not something to be possessed but something to be confronted. I regard it as an independent entity and observe how its fragments drift, collide, and assert themselves within space. These encounters inscribe an immediate and undeniable presence upon the work.
Through painting, I explore how emotions are transformed and reconfigured across time. One world may be layered upon another, or distinct emotional states may collide, generating tensions that shape an emergent reality. This process is not representation, but a visualization of the ontological traces of feeling.
The characters in my work are not narrative protagonists. They are silent witnesses, offering a site where emotional atmospheres may gather. They exist not as agents demanding our attention, but as vessels that hold and testify to the intersections of different emotional registers.
Ultimately, my paintings do not provide a story or an answer. They remain with the residues of emotion, inhabiting worlds that have just passed or are still in collision. My hope is that this inquiry does not prescribe a single emotion, but instead positions the viewer within these affective terrains—awakening forgotten or unnamed sensations that dwell within.
